Year 9 English - English - Curriculum - Te Aroha College

In Year 9 English, learner's work on improving their understanding of purposes and audiences, ideas, language features and structure through a wide variety of ways: listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and presenting.

Students engage in a general programme which enriches their vocabulary, introduces new written and visual texts and gives multiple opportunities for reading and writing, and assessing against the curriculum.  Students are tested at the beginning and end of the year using e-Asttle to establish students’ prior learning and progress through the year. Students have additional assessments each term, based on the text they are studying. They also sit formal exams at the end of the year, to help them prepare for the NCEA experience in later years.
