Mathematics with statistics involves identifying problems that can be explored by the use of appropriate data, designing investigations, collecting data, exploring and using patterns and relationships in data, solving problems, and communicating findings. 
 
Mathematics with statistics also involves interpreting statistical information, evaluating data-based arguments, and dealing with uncertainty and variation.
 
It is applicable to a wide variety of academic disciplines, from the physical and social sciences to the humanities; it is also used and misused for making informed decisions in all areas of business and government.
