Science - Curriculum - Te Aroha College

The nature of science strand is the overarching, unifying strand for Science. At Te Aroha College students learn what science is and how scientists work. The different topics/subjects provide the context for this learning. These evolve to meet student needs and interests.

The aim is for students to develop the skills, attitudes, and values to build a foundation for understanding the world. Students will learn how scientists carry out investigations, and come to see science as a valuable knowledge system. They will also learn how science ideas are communicated and to make links between scientific knowledge and everyday decisions and actions.

An aspect of the Nature Of Science that Te Aroha College science teachers strive to build in students is scientific literacy. A scientifically literate person has the capacity to think scientifically and use scientific knowledge and processes to both understand the world around them and to participate in decisions that affect it.
